Comprehensive Care in One Convenient Location

Why it's best to get your flu vaccine in September or October
For most patients, getting a flu vaccine in July and August is too early. The US flu season usually runs from mid-fall to late spring. Since the vaccine's protection decreases over time, it's best to get vaccinated closer to the start of the flu season.

In fact, the CDC recommends against summer vaccinations for those over 65 or with a first or second-trimester pregnancy.

Why should I get a flu shot?
Flu can lead to more serious infections, like pneumonia, as well as other complications and even death. “Flu season can be unpredictable, and can coincide with spikes in COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses,”

Why do I need a new vaccine every year?
There are two primary reasons

  • Your immune protection from vaccination declines over time, so an annual vaccination is needed to maintain optimal protection against the flu.
  • There are countless strains of the influenza virus. Every year, experts work to predict the strains that will be in the community that year. Because these flu virus strains change from year to year, it is important to get the best protection each year with an updated flu vaccine.

Is it okay to get the flu and the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time?
For most patients, it’s safe to get both a COVID-19 and a flu vaccine on the same day. Data show that receiving both vaccines simultaneously also results in good protection.

You use the term, Most Patients, several times. Does that include me?

This is an important question. We all have unique health profiles and risks. Grabbing a flu or COVID-19 vaccination update at a local retail location, such as a drug store, can feel convenient.

But even your pharmacist doesn't know your health history, background, or risk factors like your primary provider's office.

Most people will recover from flu in about three to 10 days, but why take a chance on catching the flu at all? And while vaccinations for flu and COVID can't prevent every possible infection, they do offer strong protection against a bad case of the flu or COVID.
